In 1975, after Kris Jackson graduated from University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMass), he self-published a compilation of his campus newspaper comic strips called Umieland's Own Kampus Kapers. That same year he published Sex & Violence Comix, which featured non-university comics strips. In the spring of the following year, he put out his third and last self-published book, Kris Jackson's Comix and Stories for Sky Bums and Space Gypsies.

Most of Sky Bums features one-page comic stories that are amusing more often than not, though Jackson's cartooning skills are somewhat sloppy and some of the strips have really muddy production values. To some degree, that is the charm of Jackson's comic books; they look homemade and you feel like you could have produced them as easily as Jackson did.

Some of the punchlines in Jackson's comics are also ones you feel like you could have come up with, but that doesn't make them less funny (after all, you would come up with funny punchlines, right?), though they might feel a little tired. Like Kampus Kapers and Sex & Violence, Jackson put in a lot of work to write and illustrate comic books and his passion for the art form shows in his product. There's no shame in any comic endeavor when the outcome can produce laughter.
