There was a four-year gap between the 7th and 8th issues of The Cartoon History of the Universe, so in the span from 1981 to 1991, there were only two issues added to the series, compared to the first six issues being published in a three-year span from 1978 to 1981. The first seven issues of the series were anthologized in a trade paperback in 1990. The 8th issue covers the history of India from 2500 to 200 B.C.

The Cartoon History of the Universe #8 has a $2.95 cover price and there was only one printing. There was no deluxe edition printed for the 8th issue. When the standard edition cover price rose to $2.95 with this issue of the series, the deluxe editions were discontinued.
