Nasty Tales #4 is the first issue that addresses the obscenity bust that took place in June, 1971 when the police seized 275 copies of Nasty Tales #1 from the editorial office. The inside front cover of this issue asks for reader donations to the legal defense fund, explaining that "these legal run-ins with the piggies cost lots and lots of money."
This issue is once again dominated by reprints of American underground comics, which comprise the first 20+ pages of the book. These include a fine story from Robert Crumb about Mr. Natural and his fawning disciples, Gilbert Shelton's "The Freak Brothers Go To College" from 1969, and a chapter of Spain Rodriguez's "Trashman Meets the Fighting She Devils." British comics include an installment of Ogoth and Ugly Boot ("Ogoth and the Sky Women") and a few pages of Edward Barker one-pagers.
