HISTORICAL FOOTNOTES:
There are four printings of this comic book, all by Apex Novelties. The first three printings have 50-cent cover prices and the 4th printing has a 75-cent cover price. The 1st printing (5,000 copies, though many were burned up and some were stolen by firefighters when the Mowry Opera House burned down in 1969) was hand trimmed, which typically caused the book's pages to splay out in a slight diagonal skew. The 1st printing shown here is a Don Donahue file copy, so it was one of the nicer copies someone had carefully trimmed, though the interior pages still peek outside the right edge of the front cover. Here is a link to a more typical 1st printing of Jiz Comics with slightly more skewed pages.

The 1st printing also has thin black horizontal lines printed near the bottom of many (not all, as described by Kennedy) of the interior pages. This used to be the most sure-fire traditional way to tell if the comic book is a 1st printing. However, as the owner of eight copies of the 1st printing, I can confirm there is a front-cover tell that will identify 1st printings. Near the top of the inside of the letter "I" in "JIZ" is a faint blue-green horizontal line that is about 1/4 inch long. It is plainly evident in the two scans of the 1st printing provided here and it exists on all of my copies of the 1st printing (including five Donahue file copies).

The 2nd printing (10,000 copies) and 3rd printing (15,000 copies), which are considered indistinguishable from one another, do not have the faint line in the letter "I" and also do not have the thin horizontal lines on any of the interior pages. The 4th printing (10,000 copies), as noted above, has a 75-cent cover price.
